A blonde beauty who was described as having a “death wish” after she was allegedly found with a haul of drugs has chosen bail over contact with her boyfriend.

Australia's cocaine crisis

A blonde beauty who spent a night in the watch house after allegedly being found with a haul of drugs has agreed to avoid her boyfriend in order to get bail.

Jessica Lesley Lee was granted bail in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Thursday after she was charged with seven offences including three counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count of possessing dangerous drugs with a quantity of, or exceeding schedule 3.

A bail affidavit stated Ms Lee, 24, was allegedly found in possession of 28g of methamphetamine, o. 1g of Cocaine, GHB, and a blister pack of Alprazolam on February 9 at 6.20am.

The document stated a used glass smoking pipe, digital scales, clip seal plastic bags, plastic straw, a $5 and $10 note rolled into pipes and another blister pack of pregabalin tablets were also allegedly found in Ms Lee’s pink handbag.

Police alleged the handbag contained a black sunglasses case with $300 inside.

The document said police were called to Tallow Wood Drive, Kuluin when they allegedly saw Ms Lee trying to hide something next to the driver’s seat of a Honda Civic hatchback.

The bail document stated Ms Lee had been charged on five separate occasions for drug-related offending since November 11, 2021 and has two serious drug charges in relation to meth.

The court heard Ms Lee was on bail for other matters when she was allegedly found with the drugs.

Defence solicitor Chelsea Emery said the young woman — who had not been convicted for any offences — could spend too much time behind bars if she was not granted bail.

“She will sit in custody for at least four to five months prior to a (drug) analyst being provided, therefore it (her matters) can’t proceed,” she said.

“Delay is a relevant factor … she may not be ultimately sentenced … to an actual period of imprisonment.”

The court heard Ms Lee had a “wake-up call” after she spent one night in the Maroochydore Watchhouse.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist said the large amount of drug offenders proceeding through the courts were causing the delays.

“You’re going to say she won’t get any actual time … that's the reason why drugs are in the community because no one gets time,” he said.

The court heard Ms Lee was educated at a local primary school and completed one semester of university before her mental health took a “downward turn”.

Ms Emery said if released Ms Lee’s family would ensure she was taken to a rehabilitation centre.

She said bail conditions including a curfew and no contact order with Ms Lee’s boyfriend would reduce the risk associated with her offending.

“They are a little hesitant about that, but unfortunately they seem to be together each time she is charged,” she said.

Police prosecutor Mick Ruddiman said Ms Lee was an unacceptable risk of reoffending.

“She is on bail for serious drug offending and committed further drug offences,” he said.

“You reap what you sow.”

Sergeant Ruddiman said an actual period of imprisonment wasn’t out of the picture for Ms Lee’s offending.

He said the conditions suggested by Ms Emery wouldn’t deter Ms Lee.

Mr Stjernqvist referenced to Ms Lee’s alleged offending and described her as being a “24-year-old with a death wish”.

He granted Ms Lee’s bail providing she complied with seven conditions including drug testing and a no contact order with her boyfriend.

Ms Lee’s matters were adjourned to April 28 for mention.
