A FIFO worker’s holiday to the Sunshine Coast turned sour when he spent 10 hours in the watch house for assaulting a police officer on Ocean St.

Western Australia man Jaxun Lee Marr, 29, was fined in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on May 13, 2022, after pleading guilty to four charges of assaulting a police officer, public nuisance, possessing medicines and obstructing police.

Police prosecutor Nick Nitschke said Marr was drunk at the Post Office nightclub on April 17, 2022 and attempted to start a number of fights with other patrons.

When security approached Marr he took off his shirt and got into a “fighting stance” and started to throw punches at the security guards.

He was taken to the ground, escorted from the premises and handed over to police.

Marr continued to be verbally threatening towards police and they told him he was under arrest for public nuisance.

Officers searched him and found two Viagra pills before Marr tried to break free from police and flee.

Marr then kicked one of the officers in the knee area, causing pain and discomfort.

Duty lawyer Neesha Maidwell said her client was travelling from Butler in Western Australia to visit family on the Sunshine Coast at the time of the offending.

“He drank too much, he has no recollection but he does accept responsibility for his actions,” Ms Maidwell said.

Magistrate Matthew McLaughlin said Marr was acting like a “drunken pest” who wanted to fight the world.

“It’s getting a bit embarrassing ... here you are almost 30 carrying on like a teenage yobbo,” Mr McLaughlin said.

“Go and take a look at yourself please ... we’ve got actual criminals to deal with, not people that go and make idiots of themselves at a pub because they haven’t learnt when enough is enough, please grow up.”

Marr was fined $600 and convictions were recorded.
