Jasper Zeke Bryant faces Noosa court on driving charges after picking up mates from Rolling Rock

A P-plater who drank vodka before picking up mates from a Noosa nightclub has faced Noosa Magistrates Court on driving offences.

A third of drink and drug driving offenders come from these two professions

A P-plater who drank vodka and Red Bull before going to pick up some mates from a nightclub has pleaded guilty to driving under the influence among other charges in Noosa Magistrates Court.

Jasper Zeke Bryant, 20, of Peregian Springs on July 26, 2022, pleaded guilty to offences including driving under the influence, not displaying P-plates properly, driving without a licence and disobeying the speed limit.

Police prosecutor Alison Johnstone said on July 10, 2022, about 1am, police noticed a silver Volkswagen at a roundabout on Sunshine Beach Road in Noosa Heads.

Sergeant Johnstone said police followed but had trouble keeping up with the vehicle and slowed down.

She said they eventually intercepted the vehicle and the defendant, who was behind the wheel, told police he held a P1 licence.

The police prosecutor said Bryant told police he had drunk vodka and Red Bull at his Peregian Springs home before receiving a phone call from his mates who wanted a lift home from the Rolling Rock on Hastings St in Noosa Heads and he was dropping them home to Coolum Beach.

His breath alcohol concentration was 0.166 per cent.

The police prosecutor said he was not displaying his P-plates and was also driving after curfew with non-family members.

On July 16, 2022, police officers visited the defendant’s home regarding a court date change.

Sergeant Johnstone said the police officers drove away from the home and then saw the defendant driving a truck with landscaping tools and excavator on Balgownie Dr.

She said police approached when the vehicle stopped and the defendant told them he was driving home from a job.

The police prosecutor said Bryant was also on a suspended sentence for an assault occasioning bodily harm.

Bryant, who represented himself, said he had nothing to put forward about the incidents and also said he was the only one presently running his dad’s landscaping business.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist fined the defendant $1000 and disqualified him from driving for two years and nine months.

The magistrate also extended the operational period of the suspended sentence by a month.

Convictions were recorded.
