A man who claimed to be a part of a gang has been imprisoned for threatening a man at a Sunshine Coast home with a sawn-off shotgun.

Jae Damon Cook, 44, was sentenced in Maroochydore District Court on June 13, 2022, for conduct with a weapon to cause alarm and entering a dwelling with intent while armed in company.

Court documents reveal Cook had attended the victim’s house at Coolum Beach on December 11, 2020, when an “altercation or confrontation” broke out involving a group of people and the victim.

After Cook and his 26-year-old female co-accused left the residence, the victim found Cook’s driver’s licence and bank card outside his front door.

Court documents show the victim took Cook’s cards and went to a friend’s house in Dakabin.

The victim then left the cards with the friend and went to stay with another friend in Mount Coolum on December 12, 2020.

Cook and his co-accused later attended the Mount Coolum home where they asked to speak to the victim, who was not home at the time.

Court documents reveal Cook was hiding a 45-55cm sawn-off shotgun in his clothes.

While the pair waited for the victim, Cook pointed the gun in the direction of two other men who were also at the home at the time.

When the victim and his friend arrived back at the home a few hours later, Cook and his co-accused jumped out of a bedroom.

Cook then grabbed the victim around the neck and pointed the gun towards his face before pushing him to the floor.

Court documents state Cook asked the victim, “Where’s my phone?”, to which the victim replied that he didn’t know what Cook was talking about.

Cook then asked again for his phone and his ID.

He then told the victim, “you’ve got 24 hours, you can’t hide, I’ll find ya”, before he left the house.

As he was leaving, Cook told the victim’s friend that he was “part of a gang” and that their “house is next on the list, you’ve got to have the phone back in 24 hours”.

Cook was later arrested in Yamba, New South Wales, on March 12, 2021 before being extradited to Queensland where he was remanded in custody.

He was sentenced to five years in jail and will be eligible for parole on December 12, 2022 after serving 458 days in pre sentence custody.
