The lettuce crisis has hit mammoth proportions after a truck carrying 60 tonnes of fruit and vegetables rolled on the Sunshine Coast, causing the busy roadway to close for several hours.
Emergency services rushed to Forest Glen about 1.30am on Tuesday, June 28 2022 to reports a B-double had rolled onto its side travelling southbound.
A Queensland Police spokeswoman said early investigations suggest the truck veered and rolled after it lost control driving past roadworks.
A 37-year-old Avoca man suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
Paramedics and fire crews were also in attendance with the highway closed for several hours.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads were advised and helped with traffic control.
A TMR spokeswoman said they were not aware of any damage to the road with the truck since recovered from the highway.
It’s understood fruit and vegetables from the truck didn’t spill out onto the road during the crash, but the expensive commodity of lettuce was believed to be on board.
The Bruce Hwy southbound has since reopened but delays were to be expected.
