Dramatic footage of police chasing down and arresting a man, who allegedly threatened several people on the Sunshine Coast with a knife before stealing a ute, has emerged.
The man, a 31-year-old from Brisbane, was arrested in Southport on the Gold Coast on Tuesday morning after he allegedly threatened two people with a knife on a private Valdora property before threatening a third person with a knife and stealing a white Toyota Hilux ute on March 12.
The ute was then found on the Gold Coast at 9.20am on Tuesday morning, which led police to the dramatic arrest.
In the footage, police are seen chasing after the man before he falls in a shrub and is handcuffed.
The man was expected to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday, charged with several offences including two counts of attempted armed robbery, armed robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
He was refused police bail.
Nambour Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Senior Constable Gary Purtell said the man was arrested about 200km from where the incident took place.
“It was good police work between the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast policing districts,” he said.
Earlier, police alleged that a 21-year-old Wooloowin woman stole a car in Brisbane and drove it to a private home rented out for short-term accommodation in Valdora on Sunday.
The Brisbane man was also staying at the short-term accommodation and when police – who had tracked the allegedly stolen vehicle to the address – went to make arrests, the man fled in that car.
Detective Senior Constable Purtell said police officers put a tyre deflation device on Valdora Rd and the man drove over it about 6.30pm.
“He’s abandoned that vehicle,” he said.
Police allege the man fled on foot and threatened two people at one home with a knife before holding up another person at another home with the knife and stealing the ute.
The detective said police officers arrested the woman on Sunday and charged her with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
