The Sunshine Coast man told police the bag of “crystal substance” was actually a popular dietary supplement, a court has heard.

A Sunshine Coast man who was allegedly found with a bag of “crystal substance” in his underwear has been denied bail.

Damian Dzufer, 37, faced Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Wednesday, October 13, where he applied for bail after being arrested for alleged drug possession.

Police prosecutor Rebecca Lambert said Mr Dzufer was allegedly found carrying two bags of a “crystal substance believed to be methylamphetamines”, weighing a total of 20g.

Sergeant Lambert said one 17.2g bag was found “down his pants in his underwear”.

Mr Dzufer’s solicitor Liesel Rogan said her client admitted the smaller bag did contain methamphetamine but denied the bag found in his underwear was Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), a popular dietary supplement.

Sergeant Lambert said the circumstances of where the bag was found made it “highly doubtful” that the contents was not an illegal drug.

Police will allege Mr Dzufer was also found possessing scales, drug utensils and $800 in cash when arrested.

A drug analysis report was ordered to determine the contents of the larger bag.

Ms Rogan said her client would have to wait “several months” in custody waiting for the report to be finalised.

Magistrate Rodney Madsen refused Mr Dzufer’s bail after he found he was an “unacceptable risk” he would reoffend and the prosecution had a “very strong case” against him.

Mr Dzufer will return to Maroochydore Magistrates Court on February 18 for further mention.

He was charged with possessing utensils, possessing dangerous drugs, possession of property suspected of being acquired with the proceeds of an offence and two counts of possessing anything for use in the commission of crime.
