A young Sunshine Coast father appeared in Caloundra Magistrates Court on Thursday to address 11 charges described as “very serious”.
Corben Blair Rayner sought an adjournment to obtain legal advice on charges including assault occasioning bodily harm, possessing property suspected of being used in connection with a drug offence, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a knife in a public place, authority required to possess explosives, and stealing.
When Magistrate Catherine Benson asked Rayner if he had legal representation or had arranged legal aid, he confirmed he had not done so.
“They are some very serious charges, so I will give you an adjournment to get some legal advice,” Ms Benson said.
Rayner also requested the return of his confiscated mobile phone, stating he needed it to make arrangements. However, Magistrate Benson declined the request.
“One of the things you are charged with is that you were in possession of a mobile phone reasonably suspected of being used in connection with a drug offence, so that’s why they are holding your phone, and I can’t give that back to you today,” she explained.
She said he would need to talk to a lawyer about his phone.
The matter was adjourned until March 13 to allow Rayner time to seek legal advice.
