A 22-year-old Bli Bli welder allegedly bit his former neighbour’s hand and coward punched him during a violent brawl involving a family of four sparked by a twilight mowing session.
Maroochydore Magistrates Court heard details of the alleged attack on Sunday, September 4, 2022, as Caileb Wayne Kramer made an application for bail over the alleged attack on Monday, September 5, 2022.
Kramer, who appeared on videolink, faced two charges of assault occasioning bodily harm, common assault and serious assault of a person over 60. He did not enter a plea.
The court heard Kramer was living with his girlfriend and brother in a Nambour unit complex at the time of the alleged attack, two units down from his alleged victim.
Police prosecutor Mick Ruddiman said the alleged victim was finishing up mowing his front yard about 6.10pm on Father’s Day evening when Kramer approached him and asked why he was mowing so late.
The alleged victim told Kramer to “go away”, but Kramer refused and turned the mower off.
Sergeant Ruddiman said a woman ushered Kramer away and apologised to the alleged victim, but Kramer allegedly shoved him and said “come fight me, fight me”.
The alleged victim’s family then came outside while one of them stood between him and Kramer, before Kramer allegedly punched the victim in the back of the head and allegedly attacked him, biting his hand.
Sergeant Ruddiman said Kramer then allegedly shoved a family member out of the way, which sparked a brawl.
The brawl ended when Kramer was moved on by another family member, the court heard.
The alleged victim and his two sons were taken to hospital for their injuries in the fight, Sergeant Ruddiman said.
Defence lawyer Katie Patterson said her client had since begun working as a welder, and if released on bail would not be living in Nambour.
She said he had been drinking at the time of the alleged offence and had not taken his medication for ADD and ADHD.
He was granted bail and will return to Maroochydore Magistrates Court on September 26, 2022.
