A firefighter who was called to a Buderim blaze has recalled the moment a teenage boy returned home to the confronting scene and realised his beloved dog was still inside.
Multiple fire crews rushed to the house on the corner of Pittards Rd and Cammeray Crt in Buderim just before 2pm Wednesday, February 20, to reports of black smoke issuing from the garage.
The spokeswoman said crews in breathing apparatus entered the home through the front door and found the blaze in the garage.
The fire was extinguished at 2.30pm.
Fire investigators have since ruled the fire as accidental and not suspicious.
Maroochydore Fire Command acting inspector Matt Phillips said the son of the people living at the house had arrived home mid-ordeal to find firefighters battling the blaze inside.
“He was quite distraught because his dog was in the house,” Mr Phillips said.
Thankfully, the dog had escaped and was unharmed.
Mr Phillips said there was no one home at the time of the blaze and no cause had been determined.
There was smoke damage throughout the house and some damage to rooms surrounding the garage, but it had sustained the most damage overall.
A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics were on standby at the scene and had treated one person who was in a stable condition.
She could not confirm any injuries or if the person would be taken to hospital.
The street smelled strongly of smoke as emergency crews wrapped up at the scene.
