Brad Murray Evans charged with more fraud offences after alleged pool scam

A former candidate who allegedly duped swimming pool customers out of $167,000 will face more charges as he plans to take his bid for freedom to the next step.

A 32-year-old man who allegedly duped swimming pool customers out of $167,000 will face eight more charges as he plans to take his bid for freedom to the next step.

Sunshine Coast Criminal Investigation Branch officer-in-charge Detective Senior Sergeant Daren Edwards told the Sunshine Coast DailyBrad Murray Evans had been charged with eight more counts of fraud in addition to 12 counts of fraud - dishonestly obtain property from another.

Mr Evans' defence lawyer Brad Hill appeared for the 32-year-old concerning the original 12 counts in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Mr Hill said Mr Evans, who ran for Division 9 in Bundaberg Regional Council's 2016 election, mentioned applying for Supreme Court bail after his plea for freedom was shut down on March 17.

" … He is talking about making a Supreme Court bail application and I think he needs to receive some robust advice," he said.

Mr Evans' bail application was denied on the basis that he was a "flight risk".

Twelve people between Logan and Mackay complained to police they had provided money to Mr Evans who allegedly failed to deliver on his promise of a new pool, Maroochydore Magistrate Court heard on March 17.

On that occasion police told the court Mr Evans was living a lavish lifestyle before he was charged.

Mr Hill told Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Wednesday Mr Evans previously stated he was going to plead not guilty to 12 counts of fraud during his bail application.

Mr Hill said he thought Mr Evans needed more advice on the matter before he finalised his plea and asked Magistrate Christopher Callaghan for a four-week adjournment.

Mr Callaghan said the matters had been in court for almost a month and Mr Evans would have to enter a plea on the next occasion.

He adjourned the matters to April 26 when Mr Evans will appear via video link.
