A Buderim teenager is in custody after he allegedly threatened a person to drive dangerously at gunpoint while he was “high on ice”, eventually being arrested by police in his underwear.
Bodhi Vincenzo Amendolia, 18, was arrested on October 9, 2022 during an alleged incident involving guns, high speeds and methamphetamine in the leafy suburb of Buderim.
Magistrate Rod Madsen refused the teenager’s bail, saying he was too much of a risk to the community due to his drug addiction.
Maroochydore Magistrates Court was told Mr Amendolia allegedly reached speeds of 130km/h in the wet through Buderim and threatened the driver of the car, all while “high on ice”.
The court was told of witnesses, dashcam footage and photographs that showed the 18-year-old holding guns.
Police prosecutor James Allen said intelligence suggested Mr Amendolia had access to a handgun, was seen with a sawn off shotgun and had used a rifle.
Mr Allen told the court Mr Amendolia’s vehicle avoided police for about 10 minutes at speed, driving through give way and stop signs.
The court was told Mr Amendolia was the passenger and he pointed the gun at the driver and told her “you better drive I have a gun in the car”.
Mr Allen said he eventually surrendered to police while in his underwear.
Duty lawyer Katie Paterson told the court Mr Amendolia could adhere to strict bail conditions and had no relevant criminal history.
Ms Paterson said the Buderim teenager worked as a truck operator at a garbage removal company.
Mr Madsen adjourned the bail application pending a mental health assessment and then refused bail on October 14, 2022.
The magistrate said Mr Amendolia was an unacceptable risk of causing further offences if he could not be released into a drug rehabilitation facility.
“When he’s using drugs, he’s extremely dangerous to the community,” Mr Madsen said.
Mr Amendolia faces two counts of dangerous conduct with a weapon, dangerous operation of a vehicle, discharge weapon in public place and unlawful possession of a weapon.
The case was adjourned until October 28, 2022.
