Beerwah man charged with Roys and Mawsons roads crash on Sunshine Coast

A man has been accused of causing a crash between his car and a motorcyclist that sent the young man to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A driver has been charged following a crash between a car and motorcycle in the Sunshine Coast hinterland earlier this year.

Sunshine Coast Police forensic crash unit officer-in-charge Sergeant Sherryn Klump said a 78-year-old Beerwah man had been charged with careless driving causing grievous bodily harm following the crash on the intersection of Roys and Mawsons roads in Beerwah on February 21.

Police will allege the 78-year-old man was driving a Toyota Rav4 with crashed into a Yamaha MT-03 motorcycle.

Ms Klump said the man on the motorcycle, a 22-year-old from Coochin Creek, was released from hospital and continued to recover from injuries.

Back in February, paramedics said they treated the motorcyclist for severe head and groin injuries before taking him to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

The driver is expected to appear in Caloundra Magistrates Court on May 29.
