A Castaways Beach teenager has been placed on parole after he savagely headbutted a punter in a Sunshine Coast venue.
CCTV captured the moment Archie Livingstone, 19, approached his victim and assaulted him twice in the depths of the Post Office nightclub at Maroochydore in the early hours of July 20.
Maroochydore Magistrates Court was told on Thursday how Livingstone spoke to the 23-year-old victim briefly about 1.30am before the other man walked away.
Police prosecutor Michael Quirk said security camera footage showed a woman trying to hold the 19-year-old back before he walked over to the victim in the crowd.
Mr Quirk said Livingstone headbutted the victim twice before the teenager was moved away by a group of men and returned to his seat.
The court heard the victim did not retaliate but left the nightclub and spoke to police, where he told them he was attacked by a man in a black jumper and a bumbag.
The prosecutor said the victim was injured and had blood coming from his nose.
Nightclub security eventually removed Livingstone, who denied the assault to police when he was arrested.
Mr Quirk told the court Livingstone committed the headbutt attack while he was on bail for cocaine supply charges in the Maroochydore District Court.
He was placed on 12 months’ probation with no conviction recorded after pleading guilty to four charges including two counts of supplying a dangerous drug.
The court previously heard Livingstone effectively sold creatine, a workout supplement, to two men instead of the powdered drug.
Defence lawyer Cherisse Breese said the line marker fell into the wrong crowd and agreed he should not have reacted that way.
Ms Breese said it was out of character for the 19-year-old, who enquired about counselling.
She told the court he does not go out that much anymore and was focused on creating video promotions. She said he wanted to work in that field in the future.
Magistrate Chris Callaghan called it another example of “gratuitous violence” and said it was “all too prevalent”, especially on Ocean St at Maroochydore.
The Castaways Beach man pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced to six months’ jail with immediate parole.
He must also pay $750 in compensation to the victim.
