Andrew Rush pleads guilty to pulling knife on man outside Coolum Beach McDonald’s

A milkshake has been wasted outside a Sunshine Coast McDonald’s after a man told two women they would be “s--king his d--k” at night’s end before pulling a knife on one of their male friends.

A Wurtulla man has been placed on probation after pulling a knife on a man defending his female mates who were subjected to grotesque sexual comments.

Andrew Rush was arrested while extremely drunk outside the Coolum Beach McDonald’s on September 2 after his violent behaviour towards a man who was defending his friends from hideous remarks about sex acts.

Maroochydore Magistrates Court heard on Monday how triple-0 calls were made to police at 10.18pm about reports of the Wurtulla man threatening to stab people outside the popular fast-food venue.

Police prosecutor Tara Miles said multiple witnesses directed police to Rush who was arrested with a small multi-tool knife in his pocket.

Officers spoke to the victim who said he was at Macca’s to meet two women who caught the bus to meet him.

Senior Constable Miles said Rush was also on the bus when he made several crude remarks about them, saying “you girls will be s---ing my d--k by the end of the night”.

The women told the victim what occurred, who then told Rush to stop talking to them.

When the victim retrieved his order from inside the fast-food shop, he walked outside where Rush again made the same comments towards the women.

The court heard the victim told him to stop once again when the 31-year-old lunged towards the victim, striking him in the shoulder.

He was convicted.

Senior Constable Miles said the victim saw a blade emerge in the Wurtulla man’s fist, which prompted him to throw a milkshake in Rush’s face.

The police prosecutor said Rush walked around the corner, however the victim followed Rush and said he “wasn’t going anywhere” until police arrived.

Duty lawyer Rachel Holland said Rush, an alcoholic father of two, could not recall what happened due to him drinking heavily on the day.

She said he was going to check himself into a rehabilitation centre after his sentence.

Magistrate Rod Madsen acknowledged Rush was not in a good state at the time and placed him a 12 month probation order, following the 31-year-old’s guilty plea to going armed to cause fear.

A conviction was recorded.
