Alleged Tewantin teen torture case: One to be sentenced, another in court on fresh charges

Two girls allegedly involved in an hours-long torture of another girl at a Tewantin home will be sentenced in court next month as one of them faces nearly 40 new charges.

The next steps in the case of three teenage girls charged over an alleged hours-long torture of another teenage girl has been revealed in court, as one of the trio faces court on nearly 40 new charges.

Two teenage girls allegedly involved in an hours-long torture of another girl at a Tewantin home earlier this year will be sentenced in court next month, a court has been told.

The girls, who are co-accused with a third girl and cannot be identified for legal reasons, were charged in March after they allegedly invited a 13-year-old girl to a Tewantin home and allegedly prevented her from leaving, filmed her while being assaulted and taunted and her cut with a knife over the period of several hours.

The three co-accused were aged 12, 13 and 14 at the time.

One girl was charged with four counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, assault occasioning bodily harm while armed in company, deprivation of liberty, enter dwelling and commit indictable offence, armed robbery while in company used personal violence, enter premises and commit indictable offence and wilful damage.

The three girls, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, were charged in March after they allegedly invited a 13-year-old girl (pictured right) to a Tewantin home and allegedly prevented from leaving, allegedly filmed her while being assaulted, allegedly taunted and cut with a knife over the period of several hours.

Another was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, assault occasioning bodily harm while armed in company, deprivation of liberty, armed robbery while in company used personal violence, enter dwelling and commit indictable offence, common assault and unauthorised dealing with shop goods.

The third girl was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, assault occasioning bodily harm while armed in company, deprivation of liberty, armed robbery in company with personal violence, enter dwelling and commit indictable offence and unauthorised dealing with shop goods.

Two of the girls appeared in the Maroochydore Children’s Court via videolink on Thursday, November 23.

The third girl was not required in court for her mention - with the court told she had pleaded guilty and would be sentenced on December 13.

One of the girls who appeared on videolink on Thursday was arraigned and pleaded guilty to 37 fresh summary offences, including two charges of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, one of unlawful use of a motor vehicle in company, 28 breaches of bail, burglary, enter dwelling with intent, enter premises with intent, three charges of stealing and failing to appear in court.

She will be sentenced in the Maroochydore Children’s Court on December 13.

The other girl on videolink had her matter adjourned until January 25, 2024, after concerns were raised about her capacity to be arraigned.

Lawyer Luke Bull told the court he was working to arrange a psychological review of the girl and a fresh bail application was likely at a later stage.
