A Caloundra West resident had his Christmas soured after he woke up to find his Toyota HiLux had been allegedly stolen by a 24-year-old Cooroy man.

Alex Valentine made a bid for bail in Maroochydore Magistrates Court after he was charged with a raft of theft and fraud offences.

Police allege the 24-year-old aspiring concreter had allegedly stolen a Toyota HiLux from a Caloundra West home between 10pm on December 24 to 6am on December 25.

Court documents say the victim had work tools in the back of the car which were also allegedly stolen.

Mr Valentine was intercepted by police at the Nambour 7-Eleven on Christmas Day with the allegedly stolen vehicle.

A number of items and receipts were found in the car from the Caloundra BP where it’s alleged Mr Valentine used a stolen credit card six times.

Police allege CCTV was used to find the 24-year-old with the vehicle and credit card.

Duty lawyer Jason Todman appeared by phone and said Mr Valentine had work lined up as a concreter in the New Year and was keen to turn a corner with his life.

Acting Magistrate Raelene Ellis granted Mr Valentine bail and adjourned the matter to January 18, 2022.

He faces six counts of fraud, receiving tainted property, stealing and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
