Aidan Laud Carter assaults 16-year-old girl at Cooroy bus stop

‘You’re too young for me’: A 16-year-old girl was reduced to tears when an older man began touching her during a disturbing assault at a Sunshine Coast bus stop.

A 48-year-old Tewantin man has been sentenced after he touched up a 16-year-old girl he had just met at a Cooroy bus stop.

Aidan Laud Carter had his sentence reopened for two counts of common assault after his previous community service order was revoked.

Noosa Magistrates Court heard Carter approached the teenager at a bus stop in Cooroy on March 20 and asked if she was 15 years old.

The victim said she was 16 years old, to which Carter replied, “You’re too young for me”.

Carter then placed his hand on the teenage girl’s leg as she began to cry.

The 48-year-old walked away briefly before he returned and touched her breast outside her shirt.

Magistrate McLaughlin said the victim would be terrified “that she was going to get raped”.

“You can’t go around touching teenage girls like that out in the street,” he said.

Carter was previously sentenced to a community service order for the two assaults.

His doctor, however, advised to the court he would not be able to complete the order.

The court heard Carter had spent a large amount of time in hospital due to his mental health.

Duty lawyer Katie Paterson said the 48-year-old was heavily medicated for his schizophrenia and psychosis.

Carter pleaded guilty to two counts of common assault and was sentenced to one month’s jail, suspended for 12 months.
