A 34-year-old man, accused of being involved in a major drug operation spanning from Tasmania to Noosa, has appeared in court after he was arrested in New South Wales after the NRL Grand Final.

Aaron Luke Vasicek applied for bail from the Maroochydore Watch House in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on October 7, 2022, after he was arrested on a warrant in New South Wales and extradited to Queensland by Noosa police.

He faces one charge of trafficking dangerous drugs.

The court was told Mr Vasicek was alleged to have been identified as the criminal business partner of former Hobart man Mitchell John Campbell, following a major investigation into trafficking of cocaine and MDMA from Tasmania into Queensland on a commercial scale.

This later allegedly unearthed two drug syndicates in Noosa which were linked to Mr Vasicek after a financial investigation revealed he had allegedly been transferring money to several members.

All those involved in the operation have been charged, the court was told.

Mr Vasicek’s co-accused partner was also discovered to have an unexplained $276,608 transferred to her account, despite claims she was not employed.

A search warrant was executed at her house in April 2022, where police seized a number of mobile phones allegedly containing text messages and emails from Mr Vasicek.

Mr Vasicek was alleged to have also sent threatening messages to customers who owed him money, the court was told.

She was arrested and charged that same month, and a search warrant was executed for Mr Vasicek in August after he was unable to be located.

Uniformed Sydney police found him on October 3, 2022, after his friend drew the attention of police for drunken antics on the night of the NRL grand final, and he was extradited to Queensland by Noosa police.

Defence lawyer Chelsea Emery said her client was not aware he was wanted by police, and rejected claims her client was a “flight risk”.

Her client was working as a mechanic at a “well known auto group” at St Leonards in Sydney before he was arrested, she said, where he was earning up to $40,000 a year.

Mr Vasicek’s bail was refused, and he will return to Maroochydore Magistrates Court for committal mention on November 24, 2022.
