A woman feared for her life when she was kneed, choked, spat on and dragged by the throat by her partner who was armed with a taser, a court heard.

George David was on parole when he brutally attacked the woman early last year, Crown prosecutor William Slack said.

He said David punched the woman in the face before stealing her phone and running away on April 18.

Two days later, the woman left the house she was staying at for a brief period and returned to find David standing inside.

David closed the door, grabbed her by the throat while armed with a taser and dragged her to a bedroom, Mr Slack said.

He then struck her in the face and body with his elbows and knees.

"She saw a knife clipped to his pants and thought she was going to die," Mr Slack said.

David spat in the woman's face and pushed her face into the bed.

He grabbed her neck with both hands and squeezed until she couldn't talk or breathe, the Maroochydore Court heard.

Mr Slack said the woman was eventually able to free herself and ran to a neighbour for help.

The court heard David had later been arrested at a Coochin Creek petrol station after he was caught driving without a licence.

David had spent 311 days in custody by the time he appeared in Maroochydore District Court on Friday, 130 of which were able to be declared as time served.

David pleaded guilty to 41 charges.

His charges included choking - domestic violence offence, common assault - domestic violence offence, deprivation of liberty - domestic violence offence, assault occasioning bodily harm- domestic violence offence, driving without a licence and armed robbery.

Defence barrister Mark Dixon said David suffered a polysubstance addiction which, while not an excuse for his behaviour, explained some of it.

"(He was) in an ice fuelled rage."

He said David had a significant drug problem, having used marijuana from age 18 and ice since he was 22, but said he had not resorted to violent offending in his past.

"The violence is limited to this poor victim," Judge Richard Jones said.

The court heard David had been diagnosed with depression and had been self-medicating with illicit drugs but since being in custody he had received proper treatment.

Mr Dixon said David recognised he needed to address his drug addiction and had signed up to complete drug rehabilitation programs and had reached out to rehabilitation centres for his release.

The court heard David, who had worked as a landscaper, was raised by a supportive family and graduated from Caloundra State High School.

Mr Dixon said "nothing like this" had occurred in David's previous long-term relationships and that David was sorry for what had happened.

In his sentencing remarks Judge Jones accepted that David was not violent towards "women at large" and that the drugs had affected his ability to control his rage towards the victim.

"This is a person that has harassed, terrorised, brutalised this young woman," he said.

"No doubt this person is a serious threat to this victim."

He said David's early guilty plea was in his favour as he spared the victim from having to give evidence and had assisted in the administration of justice.

David was given a head sentence of three-and-half years with 130 days in pre-sentence custody declared as time served.

David will be eligible for parole on December 26.

He was also disqualified from driving for six months.
