JULIAN Wilson could not have picked a better time to pull out the best ride of his ASP World Championship Tour career.

In pumping two-metre waves at South Africa’s Jeffrey’s Bay, Coolum Beach’s Wilson registered the first perfect 10-point ride of the Billabong Pro.

The crowd went wild as the kid from the Sunshine Coast tucked into a perfect barrel, disappearing deep into the tube before emerging with his hands in the air.

It took the five judges just a few seconds to award him a 10.00 in the round-three heat.

“It’s the first 10 of my world tour career and it felt insane,” an ecstatic Wilson said after he defeated fellow Australian Kieren Perrow.

“I knew if I waited for the perfect wave it could happen. At the start (of the wave) I wasn’t sure what I would do on the inside, but I just kept hoping it would get good.

“It was so fun. I tucked into the first barrel and I knew I was coming out but I thought I had to go in again, so I did.

“I Came out and it was such a good feeling.”

Wilson clocked a two-wave total of 17.00 to easily account for Perrow (13.00).

The win has thrust him into the fourth round of the contest, where he will face Australian Adrian Buchan and South Africa’s Jordy Smith, the defending champion of the event.
