Specialist rescue and swift water crews saved four people from floodwaters on the Sunshine Coast on Monday night.
Emergency services responded to a rescue job, with reports of three people stuck in a tree and one person stuck in a tractor in floodwaters at Naranga Road, Belli Park, just after 9.15pm, on Monday, March 4.
It comes after the Sunshine Coast was drenched in heavy rainfall over the past 36 hours, with the highest totals recorded at Poona Dam on the Sunshine Coast, with 245mm since 9am Monday, Mapleton (214mm), West Woombye (212mm), Eerwah Vale (201mm) and Maroochydore (199mm).
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokesman said multiple crews, including specialist rescue crews were tasked to the scene.
“We had three fire and rescue crews as well as a specialty rescue and swift water rescue technicians there,” the spokeswoman said.
“On arrival, they could see the people in the tree and on the tractor.
“We had swift water rescue crews go in on the motorised rescue crafts, they were having verbal contact with a person on the tractor.
“The person on the tractor was in the hands of swift water technicians at about 11.15pm, we did another search and the people in the tree were in the hands of the rescue crew at about 11.20pm.
“Crews returned to land and handed the people over to QAS.”
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said that all the people in floodwaters were assessed by paramedics.
“Paramedics assessed four stable patients after they found themselves in flood water off Naranga Road at 9.24pm,” the spokesman said.
“QFES swift water assisted retrieved the patients who were uninjured and did not require transport to hospital.”
