Peachester rescue complete after car rolls 80 metres

One driver has been rescued from a horror crash with minor injuries, after their car rolled 80 metres down an embankment in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. Here is what we know.

A driver has had a miracle escape in the Sunshine Coast hinterland after a car rolled 70 to 80 metres down an embankment at Peachester on January 16.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Peachester and Julian Streets at 11.22am to reports a car had rolled, but a QFES spokeswoman said firefighters were called in by paramedics after it was discovered it went 70 to 80 metres down an embankment.

One person, the driver, was still inside the vehicle, but was not trapped, they said.

One firefighter and one paramedic then began a “vertical rescue” at approximately 12.15pm, the spokeswoman said, using a basket stretcher to reach them.

A QFES spokesman said as of 2.20pm, the driver had been rescued and was safely back on the roadway, but was yet to be taken to hospital.

A Queensland Ambulance Spokeswoman told the Daily the driver, a woman in her 60s, was in a stable condition and had suffered shoulder injuries and potentially a back injury but was otherwise unharmed.

She was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

A Queensland Police spokesman said Peachester Rd was closed, and was expected to remain closed for at least until 3pm.
