A man has suffered “significant” injuries across his whole body after paragliding from and hitting the side of a popular mountain in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said her team received a call at 7.26am about a paraglider who jumped from Mount Beerwah in the Glass House Mountains and knocked back into the side of the mountain.

“[It appears] he’s launched and was blown back by the wind and hit the mountain,” she said.

The spokeswoman said her crew were attending to the male patient who has suffered “significant” injuries to his head, chest and spine and has fractured his legs.

She said a rescue helicopter has since landed on scene.

She said the paraglider jumped from a path on the mountain known as the “Organ Pipes”.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said his team received a call about an injured paraglider along Mount Beerwah Rd at Mt Beerwah at 7.30am.

He said his team had made contact with the patient.
