Footy feast a fine treat for fans prior to season

LAST weekend wound up the footy feast in good style with a really good trial between Warriors and Titans.

LAST weekend wound up the footy feast in good style with a really good trial between Warriors and Titans.

While the Warriors won a tough encounter I would think both sets of supporters would have left the Sunshine Coast Stadium wet (poured for the last ten minutes of the game) but pretty upbeat for the upcoming season.

Warrior's new recruits Harris/Green/Blair all looked good and with gun trainer Alex Corvo now over the ditch the Kiwis look decidedly leaner and fitter so I think these guys could be looking at finals in 2018.

As for the Titans, Bryce Cartwright looked sensational in his first hit out and will really ad to their attack.

I think if ever the Titans were going to fire this is the year with new coach, new owners, new CEO and it looks like a new attitude, so it is giddy-up this year.

It was a nice touch again from the stadium with both teams staying on the field after the game for signings and meet and greets with their resilient fans, it was awesome.

Not so awesome was my contribution, a couple of weeks ago ex-ABC guru Peter Meares rang me and asked would I be interested in giving him a hand to call the Raiders v Dogs and Warriors v Titans for a live stream for the council and the four NRL clubs.

Initially I thought it was a gee-up and someone was doing an awesome impersonation of his golden voice but no it was the gentleman himself and it was far dinkum.

So, I sat up on top of the roof with the great man and tried to add something to the 160,000 combined viewers for the two games that probably wondered who this peanut was?

I do know that I made a comment about the Raiders having four number 20's, two number 19s and two number 16's and couldn't the nation's capital come up with a set of jerseys numbered 1-32.

That hit the mark as by the time I got into the sheds after the game a couple of Raiders staff had texts from friends going who is the knucklehead that reckons we can't count down here.

For the record I really enjoyed the experience, probably more so than those that listened but thanks to Pete I ticked off something I always wanted to do.

I was wrapped to see Matt Bevilacqua win the Nutrigrain Ironman Series last weekend at Cronulla which we all got to watch live from our living rooms on Fox Sports last Sunday thanks to the work that the crew from Ocean6 do.

Great fellow is Matt and he made history with his partner Brielle Cooper winning the women's series as well.

Not bad either listening to the coast's Josh Minogue and Jack Hansen doing a fantastic job commentating the action, Josh and Jack and Josh, annoying slightly but entertaining.

From today onwards at Alex Beach you might catch the next Matt or Brielle with the Queensland Junior Surf Lifesaving Titles underway.

Over 1600 competitors will be on the sands stretched from the Bluff to halfway to Maroochydore battling it out in surf and beach skills.

Then in a fortnight's time U17s to Masters at Maroochydore Beach split by the Mooloolaba Tri next weekend.

Three weeks of action on the beautiful central Sunshine Coast.
