NRL star Andrew Fifita has visited Noosa triathlete Alexa Leary in hospital to show his support

A number of prominent athletes and celebrities have shown their support for triathlete Alexa Leary as she continues her battle in hospital.

Rugby League superstar Andrew Fifita has joined a list of elite athletes and celebrities that are showing their support for Sunshine Coast triathlete Alexa Leary.

Miss Leary remains in a stable condition at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital after a horror biking accident in Pomona on July 17.

The 20-year-old, who recently celebrated her birthday on August 18, was accompanied by Fifita after he was rushed to hospital at full time of his team’s 50-20 win over the West Tigers on Saturday.

Following successful laryngeal surgery, the veteran forward shared his first comments since the injury on Instagram and said that Miss Leary’s perseverance has put his own injury in perspective.

“If you were thinking I had a bad couple of weeks everyone has to go on and follow Lex,” Fifita wrote.

“Lex has a bigger battle then me. Made me feel how good life is today. Thank you for being my Grateful of the week.

“You taught me a lot by being in your presence. I'll forever remember that moment.”

Fifita joins a number of elite athletes, friends and celebrities that have shown their support for Miss Leary and her family through the MoveforLex Instagram page.

Miss Leary’s father Russell said the support has been amazing.

“The videos, the test messages, the photos and everything else really does help us all keep going,” he said.

“We didn’t ask Fifita to come and visit. He asked a nurse if Alexa was in the hospital and got up and walked around trying to find her which I think is an amazing thing to do,” he said.

Mr Leary said there is still a long road of recovery ahead for all involved.

“We were told that it’s going to be 12 months minimum of rehab,” he said.

“Because she’s not fine but she is definitely improving.”
