The council of a major tourism hotspot is recruiting a new leader but the cost of the hunt will remain secret until after it is completed.

Noosa Shire Council has engaged Brisbane specialist recruitment company Davidson to search for its new chief executive officer to replace Brett de Chastel.

Mr de Chastel is retiring in February next year after eight years leading the organisation.

Executive services director Deb Iezzi said the total cost of the nationwide recruitment process would be revealed in a future council report once the process was completed.

It is understood Davidson was selected from several companies that provided “competitive quotes” for the recruitment drive.

The nationwide search started last week and a list of preferred candidates was expected within two months.

Mayor Clare Stewart said a recruitment panel would soon be finalised.

She said the council was determined to find an experienced, inspirational leader to help deliver the shire’s strategic vision.

The contract was for four years and the job description said that the ideal candidate would have executive experience in the local government or public sector or at a service delivery organisation.

“We’re looking for someone to lead a high performing organisation and harness the potential our shire has to offer,” Ms Stewart said.

“Our new CEO will be a strategic leader with a strong focus on building relationships with residents and the business community.

“They will have a demonstrated ability to lead, inspire and motivate council’s 430 staff members and promote a healthy, high performing organisational culture.

“We want someone who will play an integral role in shaping the future of Noosa.”

The advertisement did not reveal the salary range.

The final appointment will be a decision of the full council.
