An idea etched on the back of TAB ticket during a session at the Noosa Reef Hotel is about to evolve into the region’s next major player in the booming real estate industry.
Liam Kennedy and Liam Anlezark, co-owners of Stay Property Group and its holiday rental arm Stay Noosa are weeks away from opening their new office on Weyba Road, Noosaville.
The duo are well-known in Noosa sporting circles.
Mr Anlezark is a bona fide Pirates rugby league club legend.
The 2017 premiership winner and Mr Kennedy, a league fan who had been a familiar face around the Noosa Tigers Aussie rules club, had ambitions to grow their real estate business across the Sunshine Coast and eventually hoped to move into property development.
The effect of Covid-19 on their holiday bookings business had been significant.
Ongoing uncertainty of lockdowns had only fast-tracked their desire to move into the real estate industry.
But it was a humble TAB ticket which started the journey back in 2015.
Mr Kennedy said he’d been prompted to register the Stay Noosa business name when he woke up the following day after a “few sharp ones” and saw the name scrawled on the ticket with the instructions to make it formal.
“I’ve still got the TAB ticket,” he said with a laugh.
From there the empire grew and now the pair, having become close mates, had decided to go 50/50 owners in the business.
Mr Kennedy said like his hairline, he’d felt too thinly spread and had an urge to focus his efforts into the real estate side of the business.
Their new Noosaville office was in its final weeks of fit-out with conveyancing lawyers, a body corporate firm and new coffee shop all set to feature in the building.
Mr Kennedy said they weren’t getting too far ahead of themselves but were eager to put their years of knowledge in the industry to use and eventually hoped to take up development opportunities elsewhere in the region including Eumundi, Yandina and Coolum.
“It’s been a lot of hard work,” he said.
The pair aimed to be officially open on September 10, pending Covid restrictions as a sizeable soiree and charity auction was planned to mark the milestone.
The new office was set to open with 5-6 staff and expansion plans were in place with up to 10 staff able to be accommodated.
Mr Kennedy said they aimed to have their business cover Gympie to Caloundra and the hinterland with a team of agents located around the region.
“We put ideas into place and follow them through,” Mr Kennedy said.
“We’re a couple of younger blokes having a crack and we want to do things a little differently and push boundaries.”
