NightQuarter Sunshine Coast: Live music venue clears Covid plan, able to play on again

Owners of the popular NightQuarter live music venue are preparing to wow punters once more with tunes able to be belted out again.

Owners of one the region's most prominent live music venues say the state government has revoked its closure order and they've been given the go ahead to rock on.

NightQuarter co-owner Michelle Christoe said the state government had revoked its cease and desist notice after approving an addendum to the venue's approved Covid plan.

The result is that the popular venue can once again let the music play with country music star Casey Barnes set to kick off the Red Hot Country Festival with five stages planned to play live tunes.

Ms Christoe said they'd been overwhelmed by community support and backing from within the live music industry.

"It could've been done without going through all of this," she said.

Queensland Health officials had recently raided the venue and ordered the closure of its main stage due to alleged multiple breaches of Covid-19 rules.

Ms Christoe said they still had issues with the restrictions on the venue when major sporting events were able to proceed.

She said they'd lost some bookings and the recent raid had cost them $225,000 that weekend, another hit after losing almost $1 million worth of gigs over the past year.

Ms Christoe said the markets had remained open and it had only been the live music affected, but now they had the green light she hoped fans would flock back in droves.

"This has had a huge effect," she said.

Australian surf rock band Hockey Dad announced on Tuesday that a show scheduled at NightQuarter would be held on September 4.

Ms Christoe said they'd worked hard to abide by restrictions throughout the pandemic, but said people still found it difficult at times to follow different rules between venues.

She said their venue supported more than 20 local musicians every weekend plus touring artists and the whole operation supported more than 400 staff.
