A NEW solution has been launched to help ease traffic and parking pain around the University of the Sunshine Coast.
Rideshare service provider Liftango has launched its app in partnership with the university.
The app matches riders with drivers headed to university at the same time, reducing the number of cars travelling to and parking at the Sippy Downs campus.
The app will also provide the university with real-time data to assist with decisions about transport infrastructure.
All users had to do was register as a driver or rider with their student email and the app would match them with another student taking a similar route.
As an incentive, drivers are given fuel or other vouchers, while riders enjoy the luxury of a free lift to university.
The university's operations and client services coordinator Paul Camilleri said Liftango could help around commercial developments on campus.
"We've received really positive feedback from students who are looking forward to having somebody to share a commute with,” he said.
Liftango founder and CEO Kevin Orr said the technology was originally developed based on transport needs for the University of Newcastle and designed around the dynamics and requirements of a campus.
Liftango was now available on the App Store and Google Play Store.
