Nambour Connection Rd delays: Two men dead after horror crash

Two young men have been killed after they were allegedly struck by a car while helping repair a broken-down bus in a horror Sunshine Coast crash.

Two men have died in a horror Sunshine Coast crash after they were allegedly struck by a car while trying to help fix a broken-down bus.

Initial investigations indicated the men – a 25-year-old Currimundi man and a Baringa man, aged 22 – were helping with repairs for a bus broken down on the side of Nambour Connection Rd about 3.30pm Thursday, April 21, when they were allegedly struck by a westbound vehicle.

Both men were rushed with critical injuries to Sunshine Coast University Hospital where they sadly passed away.

No one was on board the bus at the time and police said a 43-year-old Warana woman alleged to have been driving the vehicle was helping with their inquiries.

Forensic Crash Unit officers and Workplace Health and Safety representatives were investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident which brought traffic to a standstill.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage in the area at the time, is urged to contact police.

The scene was described as “chaotic” on Thursday afternoon.

Queensland Ambulance Service Senior Operations Supervisor Shane Kropp said critical care paramedics and bystanders rushed to the aid of the two men after they were struck by a car.

“They got life-threatening injuries so advanced care and critical care paramedics … treated them accordingly,” he said.

“(The scene) was very chaotic but paramedics worked very well together as did bystanders.”

The incident happened at Nambour Connection Rd near Aird Lane opposite the Wildlife HQ, in Woombye, about 3.30pm – during peak our on one of the Sunshine Coast’s busiest arteries.

Northbound traffic on Bruce Highway heading towards the Nambour Connection Rd roundabout was banked up for about 3km.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area.
