A Sunshine Coast cinema will make its comeback with a fresh coat of paint after the previous company collapsed, forcing the venue to close its doors.

The Nambour Chamber of Commerce announced the reopening of Nambour’s cinema after the previous company, Majestic Cinemas entered voluntary administration, in April.

The venue is expected to open on November 28 as Nambour Cinema and Events Centre.

The chamber shared in a Facebook post the foyer, candy bar areas and bathrooms have been completely redesigned and refurbished and a platinum recliner cinema and air conditioning have been installed.

The main auditorium will also double as a live entertainment space.

Despite the investment into refurbishments which have been ongoing since August, the chamber said entry tickets will only cost $10.

Owner Luke Warburton, who also operates the Strand Cinema in Caloundra and Bribie Cinemas at Bribie Island, hopes to “reactivate” the area next year to attract Sunshine Coast performing groups and national touring acts.

“This will better utilise the live entertainment zone that Nambour has yet to maximise and hopefully, activate Nambour’s night-life,” the post read.

A chamber spokeswoman said the massive and thoughtful renovation will be an amazing offering for the town with a family friendly price point.

“It’s great for the town on all fronts,” the spokeswoman said.

The closing of the Majestic Cinemas was a shame and left a “shell” in its place, the spokeswoman said.

She also labelled it as “another green tick” and a” show of confidence” for Nambour, as one of several businesses which have invested and opened in the area.

The spokeswoman expected the new cinema will cause a great knock effect for surrounding businesses with foot traffic entering and exiting the cinema.

She also noted the cinema will be another reason for people to stay in town.
