TEWANTIN resident Michael Masters had time to grab his dog Dougie and that was it.
The RSL advocate's knock-off beer was interrupted by police who knocked at his Livingstone St door about 5.30pm Friday, telling him to leave immediately.
Mr Masters said he was lucky he had friends he could stay with in an area of Tewantin that was not evacuated.
He said he went back about 5.30am Saturday to see if he could check on his property but the roads were still blocked.
"I couldn't find out any information," Mr Masters said.
"That's the frustrating thing and they (emergency services) don't know either, but it's frustrating not knowing.
"It's my house and you don't know what the situation is."
So he made his way to the Noosa Leisure Centre in Wallace Drive, Noosaville, where hundreds of other evacuees were already holed up awaiting information.
His wife Melissa was in Brisbane for work.
"I told her to stay down there, but she is coming up," Mr masters said.
He said he wanted to get into his home just to get some things but couldn't make that happen.
"With this wind, I can't see us getting back in," he said this morning.
"It (wind) is starting to get up so we could be stuck for a couple of days, I'm guessing."
