Nambour residents were alarmed to see power flashes and hear explosions coming from a suburban street after a tree fell onto powerlines.
The tree came crashing down onto powerlines in Netherton St on Sunday evening with residents reporting ‘two loud bangs’ and lights flickering.
Michelle Buth said she heard the bangs more than 10km away in Palmwoods.
Renee Beckman said she felt “physically sick” after seeing footage.
“I didn’t realise it was this bad,” she said in a comment on social media.
“I saw this happen in my rear view mirror. Legit 5 seconds after we drove past. Car full of my entire family of 4.
“Someone is looking out for us today …”
Local MP Marty Hunt replied to Ms Beckman saying he was “glad to hear you – and everyone else, is safe.”
Local Bret Wills wrote online that his family’s power went out after the incident.
“One big explosion sound and power went out, then another big bang and it came back on,” he said.
“Now it’s gone out again.”
Carolyn Hunter said her family’s power “surged on and off again” more than 10km away in Mapleton.
While some residents’ power came back on shortly after the tree fell, some reported still not having internet access on Monday morning.
