Car engulfed in flames at Sunshine Coast riverside park

Residents were shocked to find a burning car at the edge of a Sunshine Coast park.

Noosaville residents on their evening walks were shocked to see a parked car engulfed in flames on Tuesday.

A video uploaded to social media shows the bonnet of the vehicle fully on fire at the edge of a local park on Gympie Terrace.

The owner of the car, Jess Tanner, stated on social media she was “driving like normal” in her fully serviced Hyundai i30 before she parked and noticed smoke coming from the bonnet.

When she popped the hood to further investigate, Ms Tanner was shocked to see flames coming from inside the car.

As soon as she saw the fire, she walked away and called triple-0.

Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after, about 4.30pm, working quickly to put out the blaze.

Despite efforts from emergency services, the front of the car was completely burnt, although no one was hurt.

“It’s obviously written off … I have insurance so hopefully they will cover the damages,” Ms Tanner wrote on social media.

“My dog and I are fine just in shock.”
