Development approval has been granted for the eight-storey Maroochy Private Hospital with construction set to take place in the coming months.
Located on Mundoo Blvd in the new Maroochydore CBD, the $100m health facility owned by Barwon Investment Partners will have a specialised focus on orthopaedics and musculoskeletal issues.
Economic Development Queensland which oversees Maroochydore Priority Development Area approved the proposal for the project.
About 90 per cent of the hospital’s tenancies have been pre-leased by local and national healthcare providers including global orthopaedic company Medacta and the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC).
Barwon’s head of healthcare property Tom Patrick said the centre would play a key role in accommodating long term demand for private surgical facilities on the Sunshine Coast.
“The hospital itself will be providing a new type of innovative care in orthopaedics which will be recognised on a national and international scale and that’s proven through some of the tenants that have signed up to be apart of it,” Mr Patrick said.
“Barwon’s investment into the new Maroochydore CBD should prove to be a valuable one with the development, once completed, truly reflecting a value-based healthcare model.”
Among the wide range of services the hospital will provide primary care, pathology, neurotherapy and physiotherapy as well as a host of surgical specialties.
It will also include a sports and regenerative medicine offering, advanced anaesthetics, allied health services and comprehensive chronic pain management support.
Education has been earmarked as another key component of the facility, featuring a phase 1 clinical trials centre which will focus on research medicine lead in part by USC in collaboration with other tenants including Medacta.
University of Sunshine Coast vice-chancellor Helen Bartlett said the university’s collaboration with Medacta would ensure the new medical facility would be a centre of excellence in clinical care, innovation, education and research.
“Our teaching and research activities at the centre will tie in with our degrees in Medical science, Occupational Therapy, Health science, and our other allied health programs,” Professor Bartlett said.
This will help in delivering better health outcomes for Sunshine Coast residents and greater opportunities for our researchers and students.
Once completed, the hospital will offer a range of amenities including cafes, restaurants and a rooftop leisure spot for staff as well as multi storey parking with electric vehicle and bike charging ports.
