Queensland health minister warns against COVID complacency

Two dozen people have died from Covid-19 on the Sunshine Coast in the past two month, new statistics reveal, as the hospital continues to treat people in intensive care.

New statistics show the Sunshine Coast and Noosa have recorded 35,140 Covid-19 cases since the start of the pandemic.

Sunshine Coast and Noosa cases continue to soar with some severe cases being treated at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

A Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service spokesman confirmed on Wednesday that it had 29 patients with Covid-19 including three in intensive care.

“Unfortunately since February 8, 2022, 24 patients have died,” they said.

To date the Sunshine Coast has had 68 Covid-19 deaths.

It comes as the Queensland Government introduces new rules for people contracting Covid-19 for the second time.

As of this week Queensland Health has introduced guidelines where after completing seven days of isolation, positive Covid-19 cases do not have to be tested or quarantine for 12 weeks, even if they develop symptoms.

It was updated from four weeks to 12, in line with national guidelines.

After completing seven full days of isolation residents can return to normal activities if no longer having symptoms.

However for the first seven days you should still wear a face mask indoors or if you cannot socially distance outdoors.

Queensland on Thursday recorded 7289 new Covid-19 cases and five deaths, bringing the state total up to 69,154 active cases.

It marked a drop from the 10,626 cases recorded on Wednesday.
