Man jailed for slashing girlfriend's throat

A man who slashed his girlfriend’s throat with a knife and roundhouse kicked her in the head was sentenced yesterday to two years and three months in prison

A man who slashed his girlfriend’s throat with a knife and roundhouse kicked her in the head was sentenced yesterday to two years and three months in prison.

Clynt Frederick Ellis, 33, had been in “a tumultuous relationship” with the woman which had resulted in a trail of abuse last year.

In one argument he pushed his girlfriend backwards and she was left with a permanent burn scar from a heater.

After another dispute, he pulled her by the shirt into a door where she split her lip and knocked out a tooth.

The woman also has a scar on her shin from a metal grinder he threw.

The roundhouse kick occurred after a barbecue at Golden Beach when they had another argument in front of friends. Mr Ellis left the unit, saying, “I am going to kill her” and returned with a 20cm knife with a 10cm blade. He yelled, swore and called the woman a bitch and a slut and said, “I’m going to kill you. I am going to slit your throat”.

The woman received two small cuts when she raised her arms to protect herself and then had her throat slashed when she dropped her arms. The 10cm horizontal wound required 16 stitches.

Mr Ellis later chased her, saying, “I slit your throat, did I? Maybe I should make it worse”.

The court heard the woman, who was actually asking for more wine while being treated for her injuries, had also threatened to call a bikie friend to have Mr Ellis killed.

Police arrived and capsicum spray was used to subdue him.

Mr Ellis has already served 274 days of the prison sentence.

He will be eligible for parole in October.
