A man in his 50s has suffered a life-threatening back injury after falling six metres during a kitesurfing accident at a Sunshine Coast beach.
Paramedics were called to the incident, which took place near Spender Lane in Kings Beach, at 12.40pm on Friday afternoon.
A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said the man had suffered a life-threatening back injury.
The man was taken by critical care paramedics to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital where he remains.
Sunshine Coast chief lifeguard Anthony King said lifeguards saw the man as he “crash landed” near the Kings Beach Surf Club.
“He crash landed in front of the surf club, the lifeguards went over to attend but there were already people there assisting and providing first-aid,” Mr King said.
“Paramedics arrived pretty quickly.”
