Police will prepare a report for the coroner following the death of an 88-year-old man at Mooloolaba Beach this morning, December 18.
Police were called to Mooloolaba beach around 7.10am following the man being pulled unconscious from the ocean by lifeguards.
Attempts were made to revive the man but he was declared deceased at the scene.
A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said the man was pulled from the surf in a critical condition at 6.47am, and his death was likely a medical episode.
The incident is being treated as non-suspicious.
Sunshine Coast chief lifeguard Trent Robinson said conditions at Mooloolaba Beach were near perfect this morning.
“We’ve got a nice high tide in the mornings...conditions are quite nice...waves are one to two foot...really nice swimming conditions,” he said.
“There’s some brown water and wash off from the rain but that should clear up in a few days and be sorted come Christmas.
“Mooloolaba is one of the safest beaches here.
“Sometimes there’s large dumping waves but really it’s quite well protected.”
