A Sunshine Coast family has been left devastated and distraught after their ‘beautiful’ 20-year-old son tragically died while hiking Mt Beerwah.
Emergency services tragically found his body five days after he went missing after embarking on a solo hike on the popular hinterland mountain.
The 20-year-old Mountain Creek man, who was reported missing from Mt Beerwah since Sunday, December 8, was found dead on Thursday, December 12.
His body was found by emergency crews walking the western track. Rescuers confirmed the discovery of the man on the northwestern face of the mountain.
Jacob was last heard from about 1pm on Sunday, December 8 and significant search-and-rescue efforts were launched both on foot and in the air until his body was found.
The death is being treated as non-suspicious with reports he may have slipped. Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
In the wake of his tragic death a GoFundMe campaign has been launched for the Fletcher family.
Claire Harvey-Baker created it for her dear friend, Jacob’s mother, Alexandra Fletcher.
“My dear friend lost her eldest child Jacob (JJ) in a tragic accident this week and needs financial support and assistance to lay her gorgeous boy to rest,” she said.
“This is a page setup to financially support and assist Alex and Caleb in sending off their beloved and beautiful Jacob (son/brother) in the way this gorgeous lad deserves.
“Due to the suddenness of Jacob’s passing, it is a huge financial burden that no one anticipates or even contemplates.
“Forever 20 … angel … forever young.”
The campaign has now raised more than $4000 for the Fletcher family.
“What a grand effort and show of support we have all done in assisting our gorgeous friend Alex and her son Caleb financially so far,” Ms Harvey-Baker said.
“This fundraiser is going great guns, BUT we can do more! Can we please ask if you can share this page with your work, social and sporting colleagues to reach our predicted target faster!
“You are ALL awesome and incredible human beings and I know with this amazing Village we have here for helping our beloved Alex – We Can Do This!”
