Man busted for drink-driving a day after release

A Sunshine Coast man just released from prison for drink-driving has allegedly been busted again by police while an offender with 62 previous convictions is still on the run.

A Sunshine Coast man has been allegedly busted for disqualified driving and drink-driving just a day after getting out of prison.

Maroochydore police intercepted the green Holden Ute in 1st Avenue Maroochydore yesterday.

The vehicle was being driven by a 34 year old male now living at Kawana.

“The driver described himself as an out of work plasterer; however police checks revealed that all was not as the driver wished them to believe,’’ Insp Tony Lewis said.

“Police found the driver was disqualified by a court from holding or obtaining a driver’s licence. The driver returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.15%

“Police later discovered the driver had been released from Borallon Prison the day before, after serving an eight month prison sentence for drink driving offences.

“The offender appeared in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court yesterday afternoon he was remanded in custody to reappear at the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on October 23.

Meanwhile, another Sunshine Coast man is still driving despite being disqualified – and having 62 previous convictions.

Police said the 32-year-old Kin Kin man had been disqualified from driving by a court last month but was still on the road in a Range Rover.

Police are urging anyone who may be able to help track him down to contact them.

“The offender has 62 previous convictions and is suspected of being involved in a number of serious criminal offences in the local area,’’ Inspector Lewis said.
