An iconic Sunshine Coast cinema has announced they will be closing their doors.
Majestic Cinemas on Currie St in Nambour shared the news to their Facebook page on Wednesday, March 20, citing an impending refurbishment to the C-Square building, which houses the cinema, clashing with administration processes.
Majestic Cinemas entered voluntary administration in February, affecting nine cinemas in Wynnum, Nambour and the NSW towns of Nambucca Heads, Singleton, Inverell, Sawtell, Kempsey and Nelson Bay.
“Unfortunately, our current administration processes coincides with plans for an impending major refurbishment of the C-Square building, and as a result it makes sense to close our doors at this time,” their post read.
“With C-Square being a major part of the Nambour Entertainment Precinct, it’s hoped the refurbishment will promote a brighter future for the area as it continues to thrive through innovation and change, and cinemas can re-emerge sometime in the future as a key part of the mix of entertainment in this vibrant town.
“We’ll miss you Nambour!”
The news sparked an outpouring from devastated residents who shared their heartbreak in the comments of the post.
“Absolutely massive loss for Nambour! Thank you for entertaining my kids in holidays,” Jasmin Beagley wrote.
Catherine Kunde said it was “very sad” and “a big loss to Nambour” while Darcy Nedeljak said it was “awful news”.
The cinema will cease trading on April 14.
Majestic Cinemas Nambour has been contacted for further comment.
