The Sunshine Coast festival scene has weathered huge challenges over the past four years.

Iconic long-running events have been lost and others revived.

But there’s hope on the horizon.

Here’s the lowdown on what to expect in 2025.

Horizon Festival will be making its return from May 2 to 11.

While the full program is still under wraps, Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli teased a performance by BARKAA at an opening night street party and the Skywhale family of hot air balloons.

Sunshine Coast Council Creative Director Megan Rowland said the lineup of music, performance and art would be unveiled on February 27.

At the announcement event in May last year, Ms Rowland said this would be the first time the event was held on this date after running from August-September since 2016.

Big Pineapple Festival will be returning this year after it’s triumphant 2024 reboot, though dates and line-ups are yet to be confirmed.

Last year, about 14,000 people attended the Woombye event, which drew some of Australia’s best music acts, including Amity Affliction, Peking Duk, Bliss n Eso and Tones and I.

Anywhere Festivals events are being presented across the country this year, with the Sunshine Coast set to host up to four events.

Woodford Folk Festival will be returning over New Years 2025/2026 with ambitious plans to secure the future of the event.

More than 2,000 local, national and international, artists, musicians and presenters take to the stages of Woodfordia.

This year will be the 37th Woodford Folk Festival and the 30th held at Woodfordia. It is the largest gathering of artists and musicians in Australia.

The organisers have launched the Forest of Goodwill campaign to buy the 163 hectare Woodfordia festival grounds from the City of Moreton Bay.

With a goal of raising $5.7m, the move would return the land to the festival’s ownership after selling it to council to recover from the 2010/2011 flood adjacent financial losses.

Noosa Alive will be returning with its lineup of music, arts, comedy and culture from the 18th to 27th of July.

It features more than 35 events over 10 days with venues ranging from The J Theatre to local school facilities and Noosa’s famous Main Beach.

The Urban Country Music Festival will be returning to Caboolture on October 4 after a nine year absence.

The event aims to boost the country music scene in the town and reignite the heart and soul of the old festival for all ages.

Early bird tickets are on sale with all proceeds “passionately supporting initiatives for the homeless”.

Groovin the Moo announced last week the iconic touring event would not return for 2025.

The festival team posted on social media saying they will spend the year off working on finding the most sustainable model for “Australia’s most loved regional touring festival”.

Caloundra Music Festival will not be revived either, with no news from council or the organisers.
