A Sunshine Coast home has been completely destroyed by a fire as firefighters continue to search for beloved pets still missing.
The Queensland Fire and Emergency Service sent eight crews about 1.55pm on Friday, January 26, to battle the blaze where they discovered the animals trapped below the well-involved two-storey house on Lake Macdonald Rd, near Noosa.
A fire service spokesman said they were unable to determine the cause of the fire because of the extent of the damage. It was however ruled as non-suspicious.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman confirmed a horse and three dogs were saved by firefighters.
She said they were stuck underneath the large house.
“There’s still a number of cats unaccounted for,” she said.
Fire Captain of Cooroy Station Dane Dwyer said when they arrived on scene firefighters did not know if anyone was inside when they went in.
“Due to the ferocity of the fire and the heat they retreated under my directions,” he said.
“So we did an external attack only.
“We had five firefighters assessed by QAS due to heat exhaustion.”
Captain Dwyer said the owners of the house were in Brisbane when it caught on fire.
“Police located them in Brisbane,” he said.
“It was insured though.”
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said no one was home and there were no patients or injuries.
Fire investigators will look into the circumstances of the fire this afternoon or tomorrow morning.
