Kenilworth Country Bakery wins Australia’s best sausage roll award

A popular Sunshine Coast bakery well-known for its creative range of donuts has snatched up a national title for a savoury side of their selection.
Kenilworth Country Bakery was awarded Australia’s best sausage roll in Wotif’s Uniquely Aussie Awards 2024 series.
Each award has been voted on by the public.
Owner Jenna Sanders said they were stoked to have won the title and it was quite out of the blue considering the business is famous for its unique donuts.
Ms Sanders said it is good to see their savoury items being just as popular.
As a third generation baker, Ms Sanders’ sausage roll recipe has been passed down through the family, as are many of the recipes in the bakery’s repertoire.
The winning sausage roll is essentially the original product from three generations ago.
Ms Sanders said their products are hand rolled and piped without machinery everyday, making it a complete handmade, baked good.
The bakery sells thousands of sausage rolls every week.
“This week alone we sold 2000 and it’s a slow week,” Ms Sanders said.
Ms Sanders described the product as a “good old homemade style” standard sausage roll but their use of oats rather than breadcrumbs sets their recipe apart from others.
“They’re good, they’re Australian, they’re homemade, they’re great, they’re delicious,” she said.
As part of the bakery’s challenge series, 1kg sausage rolls and donuts can also be ordered, even for families who just wish to split up the monster pastry.
Kenilworth Country Bakery, particularly famous for its coffee donuts, is located within a world heritage listed building in the Sunshine Coast hinterland and has a second branch in Mooloolaba.
