A trial has started for two Sunshine Coast residents who have both been charged with indecent treatment of a child from 2012 onwards.

John Patrick Meehan, 32, and Jessica Cinnamon Anderson-Grigson, 33, both appeared in Maroochydore District Court on Monday October 18 and have previously pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

Mr Meehan faced 19 charges including 12 charges of indecent treatment of a child under 16, one charge of rape and four charges of carnal knowledge of a girl between 12 and 16 years of age.

Ms Anderson-Grigson faced five charges of indecent treatment of a child under 16.

The prosecution will allege that two children under the age of 16 who do not live on the Sunshine Coast were involved.

The first child was allegedly sexually assaulted on three separate occasions and the second child was allegedly assaulted on two separate occasions.

Crown prosecutor Greg Cummings said the two complainants were “good friends” and would socialise together on the Sunshine Coast.

“(The first complainant) will refer to a time when she was on the beach and dropped her iPod without realising it and it was returned to her by (Mr Meehan’s partner at the time),” Mr Cummings said.

“They became Facebook friends … Mr Meehan told her to organise for (the first complainant) to come up to the Sunshine Coast.”

The two friends were driven to the Sunshine Coast by Ms Anderson-Grigson and would be taken back after the “activities”, the court heard.

The separate incidents happened in the Noosa and Sunshine Beach area in a motel room, a shower and a car throughout the year of 2012, when the first complainant was turning 15.

“(The first complainant) will tell you that Mr Meehan and Ms Anderson-Grigson collected her and (the second complainant),” Mr Cummings told the court.

They were then allegedly taken to a motel in Noosa where the two teenagers and Mr Meehan were left for the night.

The first complainant said she joined Mr Meehan in the bedroom in the morning and he kissed her and touched her body before penetrating her.

The second incident allegedly occurred in the shower of a motel room on a different occasion where Mr Meehan performed oral sex on the first complainant.

Ms Anderson-Grigson joined them and became involved in the sexual activities.

The third incident allegedly occurred months later when the first complainant was alone in the car near the Noosa Civic Centre with Mr Meehan who penetrated her numerous times.

The second complainant’s allegations include her touching Mr Meehan‘s genitalia in the car, him performing oral sex on her and also penetrating her.

On a second occasion after Mr Meehan’s birthday party in 2013, she was sleeping on a couch in a garage and woke up to see Mr Meehan masturbating next to her.

He then penetrated her with his finger, his penis and performed oral sex on her.

The trial will continue on Tuesday, October 19.
