Izabela Pike sentenced in Maroochydore court for road rage outburst

A grandma and former teacher broke down in tears as she was sentenced for a road rage incident in a shopping centre car park that has come at a hefty cost. Read what happened:

A Sunshine Coast grandmother and ex-teacher will have to pay the price for her road rage outburst that ended in more than $3000 worth of damage to a woman’s car.

A court has heard how Izabela Pike, 69, was waiting for a space in the car park of the Kawana Shopping World in Buddina at 3:50pm on April 20, 2021, when another female driver drove into the spot.

As the victim left her car she had a verbal altercation with the grandmother who was yelling out her window.

The victim later told police Pike had yelled, “That was my f--king park you stupid b---h, I had my indicator on.”

The victim yelled back, “There are multiple other car parks you bloody psycho.”

Police prosecutor Mark Burrell told the court when the victim returned she noticed her car had been keyed on both sides.

CCTV footage of the car park showed Pike walking close to the victim’s car.

Pike pleaded guilty to wilful damage in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Wednesday after previously pleading not guilty.

Solicitor Anna Smith said her client was a “good lady” who acted out of character for someone with no criminal record.

“The offending was opportunistic, it was reactionary, she is remorseful and ashamed,” Ms Smith said in Pike’s defence.

Magistrate Maxine Baldwin said the incident was “astounding” and ordered Pike to pay the $3614 in restitution to the victim.

“I know it’s so annoying when people take your park … these things happen all the time, you just have to change your mindset otherwise you get really angry,” Ms Baldwin said.

Pike was placed on a good behaviour bond of $800 for a period of four months.

No conviction was recorded.
