AN "ABSOLUTE dream” for parents who homeschool their children has opened its doors in Buderim.

Montessori Homeschool Collective runs classes for kids with a focus on self-motivation and a lifelong love of learning.

Founder Rachel Gibson said the subjects she taught were the same as a normal school, but the way she interacted with the children was different.

"I chose to do Montessori because it sets up a self-directed learner,” she said.

"You're not just feeding them information.

"You're taking a child where they're at, and fitting the education to suit their needs, rather than trying to put everyone into one box.”

This opportunity for parents of homeschooled kids is exactly what people are looking for, Ms Gibson said.

"What's really important to them is still building that social network without having the anxiety associated with a school,” she said.

"It just gives them a chance to have a day to themselves and know that their child is still being educated in a nurturing environment.”

Heather Dionysius homeschools her two daughters and says she feels "so lucky” this option is available.

"The fact that my children can still learn from someone else, but in the style that I believe in so deeply, is just so exciting,” she said.

The freedom of choice present in Montessori teaching is what Mrs Dionysius appreciates the most.

"They don't just have to sit in a chair and listen to a teacher all day, they're choosing their work by what they find interesting and they're just guided by the teacher,” she said.

"As someone who homeschools their children, it's beautiful to be able to drop them in such a precious environment with someone I trust and just walk away. It's just outstanding.”

Montessori Homeschool Collective started running classes last Tuesday at its Burnett St location.
