YESTERDAY marked the start of National Missing Persons Week, which this year focuseson the high number of youths reported missing annually.

On average, 100 people are reported missing in Queensland every week and while many are found, there are still families waiting for news of their loved ones.

Nine people from the Sunshine Coast region are currently listed as missing on the Queensland Police Service website with some not heard from in decades.

Michael Emanuel Bonavia has not been seen or heard from since August 2003 in Caloundra.

Martin Terrence Cowan last made contact with family from Gympie on July 31, 2005.

Mr Cowan's bicycle was located in bushland near his home in Gympie, but no further contact has been made with family or friends.

Kerry Elizabeth Paulin Engwirda was last seen by her daughter at the Peregian Beach Caravan Park in December 1999.

She has made no further contact with her family and may have travelled to New South Wales, although this is not confirmed.

Jack Samuel Farr was last seen walking out of his residence at Tinbeerwah in December 2010.

Mr Farr has made no contact with friends or family to this date and extensive searches of the area failed to locate him.

Jason Paul Hazelgrove was last seen in Gympie in July 2012 by family.

He told them he would talk to them later in the day, but hasn't been heard from since.

Sandrine Jourdan was last seen leaving her residence at Caboolture in July 2012.

She was wearing a light mauve, long sleeve jumper and dark dress pants.

Her family and friends have heard nothing from her since and hold significant concerns for her safety and welfare.

Trevor Mountford Smith went to Caloundra on holidays and stayed at Worldmark Resort in Golden Beach in room 702 by himself.

He booked in on March 25, 2003 and was due to leave three days later.

Property was found in his room by cleaners on March 29, 2003, including a wallet, camera and clothing, and airline tickets, but he has not been found.

Michael James Newbon was last seen at his home address on Bribie Island on the morning of October 9, 2013.

He is believed to have wandered off and family and friends are very concerned for his welfare, as none of them have heard from him since.
